once again,im going to bebel about what i did in my classes..sorry..
during 1st yr n 1st sem in 2nd yr, we focused on translation (theories, methods, editing, lexicology, terminology, sociolinguistics, etc)..after that, we started interpreting (spontaneous, consecutive, and simultaneous...which includes whisper and booth interpreting)
usually we have tutorial and recording sessions for interpreting (+listening exercises with the oldies~) which requires us to act according to diff situations, impromptu speeches, or formal academic discussions. on top of those, we have to interpret what our classmates say.
in recording sessions, we usually interpret news, documentaries, speeches, stories, movies, and sometimes songs. which is what i want to talk about, actually. (pjg x intro)
this week we did the movie 'Sepet'. i love that movie. so much. it doesnt need much scenes and dialogues for the storyline to develop, and it does so in a very smooth manner. i love the fact that 'Sepet' is verrryyy Malaysian. nothing hidden, that's what we are. admit it. i can go on and on about the cinematography n stuff, but i'll spare you the misery. ;p
all i can say is, interpreting that movie, and concentrating on the dialogues, (its multilingual, btw. susa jugak nk cube interpret the cantonese n hokkien part) i became more aware of the script's creativity. cheers for Sepet!
once, we did Zainal Abidin's Hijau...it was challenging, it was fun. it has the East Coast's dialects. ohh i spent a few extra seconds trying to guess what they meant. but that only made us appreciate song lyrics more. we do try English songs, too. but nothing surpasses Zainal Abidin's poetic lyrics. except maybe Muse. i'll explain that later.
so, on behalf of yesterday (luvly-luvly-14th-February) let's listen to my other faves with wonderful lyrics.
