bila dah lebih sebulan, mungkin dua, sangat hectic di tempat kerja dengan permintaan stayback sehingga pukul 11 malam dan ganti orang cuti sakit sangat lama dan launch new channel at the regional level pastu list baru masuk seminggu sebelum tarikh on-air, i started to break down.

tapi everything else in life made me think,

hey, it's not so bad.

lepastu terjadilah pula masalah kesihatan yang agak serius dan mulalah rasa nak nangis, tapi bila dah pergi early checkup and stuff, it made me think,

ditambah pula dengan peristiwa2 peribadi, tapi bila saya dapati satu cara untuk mengatasinya dan kembali ke kehidupan lama, it made me think,

tapi bila awal2 pagi orang dah usha kau masa nak pegi keje, tensen jugak lah kan.

saya ni, jahat tu tidaklah sangat, tapi baik pun tak seberapa.

jealousy is a one-sided freak

there are many, many things i should have known and many more that i should not.

i should have known that by opting to leave science and pursue language, my world makes a 180 degree turn.
i should have known where i got this thin, white scar on my left hand which seems to have been there forever.
i should have known that friends come and go, therefore accepting the fact is easier than dwelling on why they have to leave.


but i should not have known about...the people i do not really know, and probably don't even know about me, but somehow are very significant in the past life of a friend.

i am sooo waiting for this...

the ones who are already a year or so into punch-cards-and-paychecks, don't think you're safe. because this is really about making it big and standing on your own. i, for one, admit that i've been through these postgrad traumatic syndromes and even now sometimes it just keeps resurfacing. i'm still a kid and you throw me into the big world? [refer to 2 posts down] but anyway, i'm still keeping my options open and part of the fun is in not knowing and unable to predict what's going to happen ^_^ so i'll just enjoy the movie and enjoy this crazy life with alexis bledel forever being my idol. (loved her since she's rory gilmore alongside chad michael murray, jared padalecki AND milo ventimiglia *three hotties alert!*, and also as pretty-artistic Lena in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.) hu-hah~

oh, and the guy in this movie is zach...sumthin. he's in Friday Night Lights kat tv, kalo x silap.

okay? bile tah nk smpai mesia. but then anyone's welcome to watch this with me! take a break from fantasy-robots-superheroes-yadda3~, let's head on to some real-life for a change.

stereotaip: kampung. takreti converse in english. senyaaap, suara lembut takleh dengar konon sopan and taknak participate in activities involving lelaki, takpandai bagi idea and takut nak speak in public.

reality: aku bukan macam tu.

harsh reality: kewujudan segelintir gadis yang memang begitu dalam event tertentu akan menyebabkan aku juga dianggap begitu. (proven by experience and by berterus terang dan bertanya pendapat semua orang yang terlibat.)

solution: i proved them wrong. i worked hard to prove them wrong until if anyone would like to pin down even one of the sifat above on me, they will think, eh, she's the opposite of all that.

harsher reality: sometimes, why would people care? they will still stereotype you even after you tried so hard.

what happened next: segelintir gadis-yang-memang-begitu itu akhirnya followed my lead, and akhirnya diorang pun jadi boleh-tahan-lah.

conclusion: sell yourself well. show that you are good. jangan bagi peluang untuk orang menilai dan me-label anda sesuka hati.

ingat tak, dulu kan aku seorang yang sentiasa hepy plus bahagia?
ia disebabkan berada di sekeliling manusia2 hebat di usm. (dan institusi2 pengajian sebelumnya.)

lalu setelah lama difikirkan, bukan ingin menuduh, tetapi mungkin jadi begini kerana dikelilingi jenis2 manusia yang berbeza daripada dahulu.
setelah itu, dikategorikanlah manusia2 yang kurang menyenangkan itu sebagai golongan opportunist, yang mempunyai konotasi negatif bagi saya, mereka yang lebih teruk daripada golongan manusia yang suka take advantage of other people.
penyelesaian dicapai dengan tak mempedulikan golongan opportunist, tak memberi peluang untuk mereka mengambil kesempatan ke atas saya (sebab mereka akan segera ambil peluang untuk menyusahkan saya asalkan ada peluang!), dan senyum aje bila mereka menggila. kihkih.
hasilnya?
laa, saye masih seorang yang gembira rupanya. rilek r brader.
naseb baik kekawan saya sumenye cemerlang, tade sorang pun bersifat seperti di atas.

a birthday night is bad enough with having to beg people to hang out with you, buying your own birthday baskin (ok ini memang the altimet luzer), but on the same night to be told that you are uninvited to an interesting event. and that is my first of many un-invitation to functions and events and crazy hangouts throughout the year, and maybe more as time goes by.

by now, from february til june, it's not my fault to think that maybe it's all my fault.

there was a time when i didn't understand a single word there for i am not yet accepted into its world. as time goes by, i became the only one who understood completely what is written there. how i pride myself in knowing i have the privilege none others seems to have. while cherishing what is obviously mine, my imperfections took the best of me and tainted the place. oh, could i be more wrong? do i have to keep living behind a cheerful façade in order to continue comprehending the words? maybe that is what's expected of me. maybe not. because now i see, i am no longer there, and i'm slipping away. i couldn't understand this, nor that. wait, did i miss something here? is it not about me anymore? now, once again, i don't understand anything there for maybe it doesn't concern me anymore. so it hurts to know that i have lost the privilege...or it was given to someone else.

(man, congrats. wahahah. cna yang membedah, jgn mrh aku.) tapi...bila kadang2 kau hepy...aku kat mana? kadang2 kau benci aku...ah, kenapa pula? kalau aku cuba hepykan semua orang tapi aku tak hepy juga, camane ye? oh takpe. pandai2lah aku menghepykan diri sniri. kdg2 encikmasen buleh tolong. kdg2 merepek dgn kekawan pun buleh tolong. jadi gile kat ofis pun buleh, tade masalah. ah, kawan2, janganlah benci aku. tak indah la hidup aku nanti.

heal the world and mamma mia first took my voice away and left me wheezing for a day or two. i got my voice back and crooned on please forgive me, to test. i threw a little bit of with or without you and where the story ends, just in case. when i'm sure my voice has recovered, i slammed on gotta be somebody and four to the floor which was once my favourite. oh, i re-watched Sepi and mungkin stayed in my dreams. who knew things are just getting better? a day at the office seems better with people singing hello. i went to work with killing me softly and finally found some of the songs from the wonderful movie, so i am now looping both the english and malay version, i go and pergi.

entah kenape, saya jadi sangat gembira.

saya sedang buat penyari kataan.
dalam program ini ada disebut tentang 'underdog'.
saya pun gugel lah untuk cari istilah yang sesuai dalam bahasa melayu, sebab ruang dan masa untuk terjemahan ini sangat terhad jadi tak bolehlah nak terjemah 'orang yang ditindas' atau 'pihak yang dianggap lemah' atau apa-apa lagi yang merujuk kepada gelaran underdog itu, yang paling saya ingat ialah masa world cup 2006 ramai sokong italy sebab dia team underdog menentang france yang sediakala hebat. (dan sebab masa tu zidane buat head-butt action kat materazzi hahaha! i can't stop talking bout that for weeks! klakar siot.)

saya pun gugel2...
pastu jumpelah, satu tempat ni dia sebut pasal underdog...pastu dia kata, nasib baik [nama akhbar] tak terjemah underdog jadi 'anjing bawah' macam selalu kita tengok kat sari kata tu...

aih.

ada sedikit perasaan marah di sini. tapi takpe. saya baca lagi sebab rasanya, kalau dia cakap camtu, tentulah dia tahu istilah yang sesuai untuk ungkapkan underdog dalam bahasa melayu, kan? tentulah dia lebih terer daripada pembuat sari kata, kan?

tapi...

saya baca punya baca, setiap kali dia mention underdog, dia tulis cam biasa, italic je. macam, "...pihak yang mengatakan dirinya underdog itu..."

maka, apakah pengajaran kisah ini?

kalau nak kutuk sari kata itu tak betul, ini tak betul, sila bagi cadangan jawapan yang betul. sebab kalau kamu pun tatau terjemahan istilah yang betul, guna jalan mudah iaitu italic je, mana-mana pembuat sari kata pun boleh buat camtu tapi kenapa kitorang tak buat?
sebab kalau semua istilah english tu kita sengetkan, maka sengetlah seluruh subtitle yang anda baca kat tv tu. kami ikut etika.

hye, i'm ilie.

i created this blog in 2006 after much persuasion from a certain lecturer i cannot run away from since my 1st year. how cruel he is. it was maintained up until my final year and changed courses from english for interpretation, general english and creative writing. i wrote only meaningful topics back then for all our class discussions which can get pretty lengthy. i used to be more of a writer, not a talker. i tend to get more articulate throughout the years spent studying in melaka, taiping and penang. and how, one might wonder, by voicing my opinions on screen, it made me speak up as well in public. from a wallflower and quiet listener, i turned to a bidan-terjun event chairperson and an impromptu speaker. so if anyone used their blog as a shield from speaking up in the real world, i used mine as the opposite. so i am proud of what my blog used to be and i intend for it to stay that way.

i still have a problem of delving deeper into opinions and facts and opt to stay on the surface of things.

so here goes.

people are boycotting certain products for a good cause. some people think it might not make any difference, some think it makes all the difference in the world. it is up to you. i did, halfway. because try as you might, can you really live without any products or services that originated from the Semitics? (sbenanye tatau cmne nk gune word tu tp blasah aje coz it is more sopan.) so there. respect people's principles, either pro or anti, and don't take things to certain extremities.

an e-mail from a colleague this morning stating that she doesn't want our event this friday to go under the title V-Day got me thinking. 14th february came and went every year with the same warnings and scary history to scare us from celebrating it. and what good did that do? yes, i don't deny that it has an origin opposed to some of our beliefs but when you do celebrate, are you celebrating the history, the St., what happened a long time ago or do you just want an excuse to lavish your loved ones with cheesy corny goofy gifts? it's fun when everyone does the same thing, kan. so you're not alone buying heart-shaped pillows with long arms with the words "hug me" on it. mengaku ajelah. dressing up and going out for dinner... hmm maybe that's overrated? or only the girls yang perasan nak pegi. whatever. and the promos that come with it, aiyoo crazy la you if you don't take advantage of them. heh. but if you don't want to acknowledge the day to that extent, then happy luvly 14th february to you. for those yang tak kisah, happy V-Day. for me? happy anniversary.

i have other principles to touch on concerning concerts and gigs and how people judge others by their external appearance and how that very thing made some girls such as yours truly uninvited to black-tie events and.....*ehem*

to end in a not-very-serious mood, Z (names have been changed to protect privacy) gave this comment after hearing about a celebrity guy hitting his other half:

"tu lah, kesian raihana. terus tak dapat datang malaysia."

cars, lights, people. i knew they're out there, i can hear the sounds.

zooming and honking, racing through the starry night. fluoroscent and colourful, brightening even the darkest hour. laughter, screams and shouts rang through the air.

if only i could see.

aku menanti hari jadi.

telah hampir setahun berlalu sejak bella luna.

nah. sunset pelik. cantik woo. jeles betul gambar sunset nmpk dr bilik.
pemandangan dari bilik aku amat tak indah. nampak tingkap bilik mamat umah belakang je.

dan selepas sakit2-masuk-spital minggu lepas, wikennye dihabiskan dgn jalan2 cari sunset dgn masen (takjumpe, tapi nampak "cahaya tumpah") dan berlegar2 di upm untuk sapot kawan buat performance.

tapi setelah ternampak que haidar saya distracted sket. pelakon hebat kot.
pastu tercari-cari pierre dan hampa sebab dia hilang.
lalu saya kembali menonton dan menyapot kawan di atas pentas. cna dan sapek memang cool, fina dan sepul sgt sweet kott nyanyi lagu lucky bersama2 dan fer, kao tidak ade perform pape? ah biarlah. dan pemakaian tshirt mcr aku yg selebet itu telah menjadi recurrent topic pada hari tersebut. err...? (masih tidak paham sampai sekarang)

dan...ape lagi buat time cuti? oh lepak2 bersama mereka lah. dengan fik mencerobohi rumahku selama 2 hari. membeli coklat beryl's banyak2. dan wangian cherryblossom itu mmg wangiiiii ohh sayangnya kepada hadiah yang daku beli sendiri itu hahaaha.

so i haven't heard Starlight by Muse on the radio for a long time now. it died with time and with new music, but it will never die within me. muse is so wonderful, why? because i like songs with lyrics so deep i cannot understand but thoroughly meaningful, can give many different interpretations and the music rocks, okay. lagipun muse mula digemari saya ketika cuti lepas spm tatkala rakan2 taiping setiap kali keluar bersama akan gila nak beli cd muse, download lagu muse, pakai t-shirt muse macam budak2 zaman sekarang pakai t-shirt hujan tapi itu macam annoying sikit lah.

you guessed it right, once again i'll emphasise (BrE) and emphasize (AmE) on the difference between american and british english. might be going deeper this time.

inspired, or maybe annoyed, by the flyfm crew this morning sebab ia kedengaran macam gimik la about the usage of 'eleven hundred ringgit' which means RM 1100. true, americans use that often and we malaysians being educated with british english since primary school might not all know that it means seribu seratus sebab dengar macam sebelas ratus.
in 2nd grade, my teacher scolded me kaw2 punye because i wrote 'color' and 'neighbor' instead of 'colour' and 'neighbour.' i went home and marah2 my mother sebab saya ingat dia ajar salah because what i learned was with the suffix '-or'. my earliest education was in virginia, washington dc. not malaysia or united kingdom. of course we used '-or.'
same goes for judgment (AmE) and judgement (BrE).
and the difference between phrases and words such as windshield (AmE) and windscreen (BrE), license plate (AmE) and number plate (BrE), vacation (AmE) and holiday (BrE) etc. (which, comes from the Latin word et cetera meaning and so forth.)
but times have changed now and i think any kind of english is accepted.

ohmygod you're wrong. have you forgotten australian? and maybe irish? singaporean? and our very own manglish?

it just means that the same thing has many different versions and we just have to accept and adapt.

you see, a language develops. starting from the Tower of Babel until now. the story begins where once upon a time the people in a place called Babel all speak the same language and they have no trouble communicating. then they decided to build a tower to reach the heavens. because of their excellent communication, the tower was built quickly. it almost reached the heavens when God got angry and punished them by making the people all speak different languages. they have trouble communicating and the tower could not be finished. well that was the history of translation, when people worked hard to understand each other and translated their different languages. ever wondered why the movie 'Babel' is named that way? or the most credible translation website is called Babelfish?

(btw, please correct me if im wrong about the Tower of Babel story. it's in the bible aandd..i've never read the original version lah kan.)

and don't get me started on borrowed words:-

what about the influence of Cockney English in the english language itself?

gander comes from hook and gander.
hook rhymes with look, so in the sentence above, gander means look.

Cockney English is kinda confusing for first-timers. for more info, just google it but if you want to hear interesting examples, watch My Fair Lady or a rather cool one, Ocean's 11 (or any of its sequels) and listen to the black bomb guy. he speaks Cockney English. saya tak tipu.

okay? but that's not all. i could fill up an entire dissertation just talking about our own language and bahasa serumpunnya (brunei dan indonesia), let alone combining it with english and its different types.

and another trivial info here, my sangat-garang-tak-ingat-punye chemistry teacher during matriculation was the one who persuaded me to take this course and making me what i am now. walaupun saya sangat suka kimia. walaupun kimia ialah subjek terbaik saya (next to english) masa matrik. walaupun saya kata cikgu, saya nak amik anything chemistry-ish time U nanti. i could have been her star student and continuing her cikgu-kimia-yang-garang legacy, but she gave me a slight nudge in this direction for me to pursue what i love most.
